Cultural experience

You open your eyes…no noise in your chalet yet. You assume everyone needs a lie-in…
You get up quietly, pour a coffee and prepare a light breakfast.
This morning, just a bowl of surrealism for you.đ

Finally, your teens are ready, jumping into the car, and sorting the playlist for the short journey to Figueras! You wanted them to listen to Erik Satieâs surrealist music, to get in the mood for today. Surprisingly, the children prefer Taylor Swift!

You’ve arrived in the town of Salvador DalĂ, that’s for sure!
Click! A souvenir photo In front of this quirky building that you’ll visit this afternoon.
Whilst waiting, you stroll through the shade of trees on La Rambla, which cuts across the town centre. A walk lined with statues evoking the townâs history.
You continue on your way, admiring the delightful shops and ochre facades of the buildings, up to the Plaça de l’Ajuntament, the townâs main square.

Having walked through the superb Figueres market (on every Thursday), stalls selling fruit and vegetables and Catalan produce and goods, whet your appetite.
On leaving, you come upon the delightful Plaça de Catalunya, finding a table on the terrace to share some tapas for lunch.

Youâre right on time to start your visit to the Teatre-Museu DalĂ, created and designed by the artist himself, to display his most iconic creations. âNo teacher has ever had a pupil as brilliant as the one DalĂ found within himself.â
You move through some 1,500 of the artistâs works; paintings, engravings, drawings, photography, sculpture, art installations and stereoscopic works…Surreal!

The kids are raving about it! They’ve loved their foray into the bizarre unique surrealist world of Salvador DalĂ.
This immersive experience, discovering his work and creative genius, will stay with them for some time to come!
The kids head off to meet their friends for a basketball match. Meanwhile, you enjoy a moment of peace on your terrace, making the most of it to read âManifesto of Surrealismâ by AndrĂ© Breton.
For dinner this evening, you’ll go in search of takeaway pizzas at the campsite restaurant. You have a burning desire to enjoy the Amfora Royale, with tomatoes, mozzarella, emmental, oregano, ham, pistachio, truffle oil and black olives. Today has been sheer delight from beginning to end!
